U can copy it directly to the folder which is yous.

Oh, you must add some configure lines of the color in ~/.emacs, such as

(set-face-background 'default "black"), and etc.

Oh, I am also an amateur of GNU/Emacs & XEmacs. And I am still on learning;-)

Learning GNU/Emacs & XEmacs, there are two aspects, only learn to use the editor, the other, learn more.

If the former, you can read the file (info format) which is packaged in the Emacs.

If the later, you should try to learn some of THE programing language, LISP.

The book "GNU Emacs Lisp 编程入门" may be fine for the freshman.
