linux display setup on laptop

Sorry I haven't install Chinese input yet. I'm a Linux novice.

First question is how I can improve the default display right after install. I just installed RH9 on my laptop (DELL Inspiron 600m). The maximum display is 800x600, which is far less than I expected. What can I do?

谢谢7dehao。我仔细查阅了您给的所有连接，基本上没有解决问题。我后来在redhat的论坛上也看到有人问同样的问题，答案居然是说这是DELL的BIOS问题，说是video memory必须在4MB以上，而DELL不允许用户改动这一参数。可问题是现在的机器video memory可都在4MB以上啊。看来这问题还不好解决。我又装了UBUNTU，没有此问题，分辨率一下就到了1400x1050，而且捎带无线网卡也一下就找到了，这在red hat版也是很费劲的。在UBUNTU上安装中文输入SCIM也不算费事。看来我只好用UBUNTU了，好在殊途同归，大家的核心依然是Linux。
