Broadband connection ADSL

Hi folks,

BLFS 6.1
Broadband connection via ADSL modem/router to ethernet card

I have following packages including their necessary dependencies installed

RP-PPPoE-3.5
PPP-2.4.3
WvDial-1.54.0

Do I need to install Ethereal-0.10.12 ?

Apart to configure/setup following files
/etc/ppp/pppoe.conf
/etc/ppp/firewall-standalone
/etc/resolv.conf
/etc/ppp/pap-secrets,   

Following files will not be necessary;
/etc/ppp/firewall-masq
/etc/ppp/pppoe-server-options
/etc/ppp/chap-secrets

What other files need to be included

Please advise.  TIA

1. No need to install Ethereal.
2. you can use adsl-setup to config it after the RP-PPPoE is installed.

Tks for your advice.  I did adsl-setup/adsl-start/adsl-connect.  I could not connect broadband.

On running
# adsl-connect
following message displayed;
.....
Couldn't set tty to ppp discipline. Invalid argument
pppoe read (asyncReadTromPPP): Session 4691 : Input/Output error
........

I hesitate whether I need to recompile the kernel with support for ppp_async, pppoe, and pppox???

If YES, what component/package I need to install in addition to;
Linux-Libc-Headers-2.6.11.2
Linux-2.6.11.12
which are now running on LFS 6.1

Where is the kernel source on LFS 61.?

Whether you meant Section 6.8. Populating /dev

I already ran them on chroot.  I can't find such an item ppp device.

kernel source can be found in ftp.kernel.org

you should check whether your ppp device in your /dev directory.
if it exist,you need to recompile your kernel with support for ppp_async, pppoe, and pppox.
if it doesn't exist,this command need to run in your /dev directory.(mknod /dev/ppp c 108 0).

It is there.  I'll recompile the kernel later after solving other problems.

Hi folks,

After recompiling kernel turning on some items, e.g. support for ppp_async, pppoe, etc.  Ran 'adsl-setup' then broadband connection made.  Also configured it connected during booting.
