装服务器你选FREEBSD还是linux?

It depends on what sort of server you intend to install.  In general, BSD may be a better choice than Linux in several areas.

For web server, FreeBSD is owning the crown for stability.  If you visit netcraft.com, you can find the statistics on the top ten long lasting servers.  Most of them are running FreeBSD.

For absolute security, OpenBSD is the best choice.  On the other hand, NetBSD may support many old hardware.

In your scale of application is not big, Linux is right for you.  Consider that you are not familiar with both BSD and Linux, you should make the choice base on what resources are mostly available to you.  Resources including written (printed) books, locations or forums where you can find most answers.

linux 中 debian 做服务器是仅次于 redhat 的, 而且增长率比 redhat 大.

如果是做应用服务器, database 服务器, 那么 linux 的资源比较多.

说的太对了，应用服务器还是linux活跃一些！ ftp/mail/网关路由等要承载繁重的任务 还是FREEBSD

这是个误解。Linux 计算天数的时候最多只到 400 多天（具体数字记不请了），然后就会归零。你就算 3 年没有重启，但是显示却不可能超过计数器的上限。

FreeBSD 的长些而已。

应用服务器    是指什么？

像RHEL,SUSE的企业版本稳定性已经非常好了，不会比FREEBSD差，但是LINUX的进步速度非常快。FREEBSD面临一个应用和学习资源的问题。IBM,HP,CISCO选择企业系统的时候为什么不选择FREEBSD呢，作为业界的翘楚，他们自然有技术上的考量。

呵呵，比较赞同doom3的话，
两个系统有所不同，freebsd听说在传统的服务上面是强项，
要看做什么应用的，你可以到freebsd版面问一下，看freebsd比较适合做什么服务，
