Seriously, I have to confirm that 'terminator' is right.
My experience about Arch:
Arch is a wonderful and cool Linux distro for modern people who want to keep
their systems clean and up-to-date. I thought she's just for your desire. To
tell the truth, I was really impressed by the boot process and fantastic speed
of Arch. But she's not so perfect as the Devland proudly described.
Occasionally, I suffered 'Kernel panic' and 'Segmentation fault' during the
last 6 months, and the most serious problem I recently got was some buggy
programs like fdisk, cannot work properly in some high optimized boxes, like
Arch. This is the reason that I came back to Slackware.
Arch is just like a young girl, isn't she?
My experience about Slackware:
I had tried about ten different Linux distros, such as Redhat, Debian,
Slackware, Arch, LFS, Crux, Sorcerer, Lunar, etc. Yes, each of them has his
own pitfalls and also solutions to these pitfalls. But the question left to be
settled now is "which to choose?". I hardly believe any of us will spend their
full lives on trying hundreds of different Linux distros one by one. (However,
if we had enough time, we could build our own Linux distro). So we definitely
need to make a choice. 'Which to choose' depends on our TARGETs and TASTEs
really.
I did at last make choice of Slackware after a long time shuffling among these
damn Linux distros, and don't wanna change anymore. The shuffling is really
boring, time wasting and made me tired. I should have read APUE and the source
code of a project, which is the right way to learn UNIX. That is why I thought
'terminator' was wiser than me.
Why did I make choice of Slackware? For me, there are two serious reasons:
1.Patrick has ten years experience on the development of Linux distro, so we trust him.
2. Personally, for my own comparison, Slackware provides us with the most
effective way to build a full functional software platform.
I hope my experience can help
