It seems that the installation of VMware needs a root permission.

I am wondering:
Is it possible to install a virtual machine on x86_64 or i386 RHEL4/5 platforms?

I have penalized on this problem for several days.

Sure, you have to be root  to install VMware ,  cause VMware needs to compile some kernel-space modules.

I have used VMware for Linux and Virtualbox.  But unfortunately, both of them need root permission to install.

I guess all virtual machine softwares need to compile some modules which will use root permission.  What if you download a vmware image of that OS, and you will  just  need a vmware player to play the virtual machine.

P.S.: Are you trying to install something on a Linux box without the authorization of the administrator??   Just kidding.  ^_^

It is just too inconvenient to ask root to do everything for us.
