Dear all,
Some friends wrote to whui@mail.ustc.edu.cn to ask for a mirror of
Mandrake Cooker, and he forwarded the request to me yesterday. Well,
in September, 2003, I helped to build one also within USTCnet.
However, due to various limitations, the mirror server was moved
away for other use right before 2004 New Year. I'm sorry for that.
I never plan to provide a Cooker mirror on infonet.ustc.edu.cn,
since it has been the major contents provider of Mandrake Linux
operating system in China Mainland for quite a few years, maybe
since 1999 or so :-) and the server were really busy each time
MandrakeSoft released a final version of Mandrake Linux product.
What's more, we are also hosting other free operating systems such
as Red Hat / Fecora, Slackware, Debian, FreeBSD and so on. This adds
further load on our server, although it has 200MB bandwidth. Some
ChinaNet users are so unpolite that they launch too many threads for
downloading, say, Debian ISO image files, and I have to block their
IP addresses temporarily.
Well, I have been really busy since I came back from Korea, and
sorry for no cooker mirror. What's more, since I'll graduate from
USTC in July, I'm afraid Mandrake Linux 10.0 is the last product I
can bring to China Mainland. Perhaps there will be no mirror site
for Mandrake Linux after my graduation. I have no idea. Maybe you
can ask whui@mail.ustc.edu.cn to server you after July.
Thank you for your interests. Good luck to all of you.
