as soon as i install my firefox,and get locale ,fonts ,etc done,i am here to announce that i got my gentoo almost OK for a desktop.i havn't install the input method,so there's no chinese.
before installing gentoo,i have 1 yr experience in ubuntu,half an yr in arch,my friends introduced gentoo to me saying that it's faster and cleaner.Since i have been boring about the weird deps in ubuntu,i turned to arch. then it's time for gentoo.
at the first afternoon ,i just follow the quickly install docs, it's short but unsufficient for me.i missed some parts and got stuck.
it's easy before compile the kernel.then for the kernel section,i worked for a whole night and find which selection is necessary.i read the topic gentoo-sources内核.config文件配置服务 ,follow the instructions,
still i could not boot my kernel,then i found this website in the same topic, http://www.kernel-seeds.org,
i found that i missed the "bus" (i don't know what it means) "I2C Hardware Bus support".
for me ,just choose processor ,sata ,i2c,ext4,ppp(choose all),alsa, the net card , and then it's bootable. if there is still any error ,just recompile it .
then for the xorg,at first i read the chinese doc,i didn't notice that it is for xorg1.5.but the xorg just works finely. i compiled the xorg1.8 and emerge -nodeps nvidia-drivers ,and set the abi ignored ,until now it works smoothly.
the xterm and urxvt didn't support chinese for me at first, then i read the docs about USE, i recompiled them with USE="truetype unicode", and set the locale to zh_CN.utf-8 ,everything then went OK.
i install the mc for file-manager,'cause rox failed in the comiling process.
