菜鸟提问一个关于在linux下安装软件包的问题

到目前为止，我知道在linux下有两种软件包，一种是rpm包，一种是源码包，要自己的编译的，rpm包的安装方式，我算是学会了，可是对于源码包，却一直非常头疼。。。
一般来说我下下来了的源码包是tar.gz或tar.bz2之类的文件
解压后得到的是一个文件夹。。。
一般的步骤是./configure
make
make install
令人头疼的问题往往就是出现在这里，我在./configure 的时候会经常出错，不是这个包没装，就是少了什么编译器，有没有什么办法能在./configure 的时候自动安装需要的编译器呀什么的？
还有，用这种方式安装后的软件，他是默认安装到哪个路径下，我该如何启动这个程序

1.要进入到你解压后的 文件夹里去,有个 configuer 文件的.再用./configuer命令.
2.一般默认装到 usr/local 文件夹下,你去找找,或者你用find命令找下,可能很慢!

这个问题我也有啊，很麻烦，开始讨厌Linux了，我想装个播放器xmms; 就提示glib版本低，然后就下载glib安装，可是安装中提示有错，........ ; 所以什么也没装成功；我的qq是187366830；天天在线，请多多交流；我现在正忙于编译内核，很郁闷。。。

1. If you are new to Linux, suggest you not to build packages from source codes.

2. You should choose a distro with its package management method capable to resolve dependencies.  rpm is merely one of the many package management methods.

3. Read more from  置顶 and 精华区 to enrich your knowledge.

some other questions:

how can i remove the program that i have installed either in form of RPM package or *.gz source code ?

what should i do to make sure that the former installation have been remove completely from my system ?
