1. Before your start, you need to know what filesystems (e.g. ext2/ext3/jfs/xfs etc) your are going to use.
2. You need to know the layout of your partition table. In other words, size of each partition.
3. Partitioning tools: fdisk or cfdisk (cfdisk may be easier for beginners)
4. Formatting tools: mkfs.xxxx where xxxx depends on your filesystem to use.
5. You may or may not need a SWAP depends on your available memory (RAM).
You may get more advices from other people if you can describe your purpose of installation (server or workstation or ...), distribution to be installed (RH or MDK or Debian or Slackware...) and available space of your hard disk. |
