USB Mouse Problem!

I used to use kernel-2.6 before and both my TouchPad and USB mouse works perfectly.
But now,for some reason , I have to use kernel-2.4,then,my TouchPad works but the USB mouse doesn't work at all.
It is sure that I either miss some important option when build the kernel or made some mistakes in the config files(Maybe in XF86Config).
If I use "IMPS/2" neither the TouchPad nor the USB mouse works
if I use "Auto" ,only the TouchPad works.

I need some help,how could I do??

please tell me you trcicks, since after upgrading from 2.4.20 to 2.6.12.4 (i patched this kernel myself corrctly, and during configuration "ps/2" and "imb p110pad" are both checked), there's no 1.5-clicks (ie, click once followed by a successive click with the finger unlifted)on my touchpad for dragging, and single click on the touch pad can't access menu options or options to check (i.e., seeemingly "embedded buttoms" can't be activated by single click on the touchpad), yet other fucntions go well for my touchpad
what's wrong?
