怎样把普通内核换成SMP内核？

现在的信息：
uname似乎告诉我安装的是SMP的内核，但grub进入系统的时候只有一个如redhat-release的内核，top命令也只给出一个cpu的信息
irqbalence服务已经启动

问题：

1， 现在装的内核是什么样的？smp or 普通的？

2，如果要把内核换成为smp的，怎么做？

嗯 嗯 好像安装的时候 自动支持双核或多cpu
我在一个p4的机器上装centos5 menu config也是一样
但是top 1的话 只有一个cpu信息

我的印象中，从 2.6.x 内核起，就不再区分 smp/single 内核了。
