请教高手关于./configure的问题

请问高手./configure是做什么用的命令?
我运行./configure时出现了以下出错提示:
checking build system type ... configure:error: cannot gusse build type; you must specify one
请问这时什么意思?应该怎么处理?

你试打 as --version 看结果是什麽？

多谢教悔,我以后会注意的. 我用的是Red Hat Linux 9.0,内核2.4.20-8.AMD 1800+ 处理器,nF2芯片组.输入 as --version  结果是:

GNU assembler 2.13.90.0.18 20030206
Copyright 2002 Free Software Foundation, Inc.
This program is free software; you may redistribute it under the terms of
the GNU General Public License.  This program has absolutely no warranty.
This assembler was configured for a target of `i386-redhat-linux'.

    多谢高手指点,我的机器上没有安装gcc,刚才装上了,再运行./configure,结果如下:
checking build system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu
checking host system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu
checking target system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu
checking for gcc... gcc
checking for C compiler default output... a.out
checking whether the C compiler works... yes
checking whether we are cross compiling... no
checking for suffix of executables...
checking for suffix of object files... o
.....
.....
configure: creating ./config.status
config.status: creating Makefile
config.status: creating src/Makefile
config.status: creating src/control/Makefile
....
....
config.status: creating config.h
config.status: executing depfiles commands
这样是不是正常?

再请问$ make; su -c ’make install’是怎么一种用法?它可以用比较简单的命令代替(解释)吗?

make算是一种自动管理工具吧，
它按makefile里面的设定自动做一些事情
