FOR US NEWBIES!!!!!!!!!!
(i've unisntalled fcitx,so that i've to use english now)
since the installation of my Linux RedHat 9.0 about 8 days i've solved 5 problems which were unresolvable to me and learnt a lot on how to
MANIPULATE AN OPEN SOURCE OS.
share the tips with the rest of us newbies by:
1> keep at your hand the list of basic commands necessary to tune your Linux OS to get ready for new applications. type a key word such as "linux command" in Google search frame for infomation about these comamnds
2> since we're not experts and unable to rebuild the Linux OS we're using to our full satisfaction,pls try the
LATEST AND MOST STABLE VERSION OF LINUX OS AND ITS DEPENDENT SOFTWARES.
i've been trying to extract sounds, according to the on-top thread here, from my AC 97(8233) sound card for about 5 days on Linux readhat 8.0 but failed, cause snd.o is unresolvable to alsa. then i resort to an installation of linux redhat 9.0 and according to the official help html, two commands: lsmod and /sbin/mobprobe via82cxxx_audio,
make voices out of my sound card.
3> fix your eyes carefully on the messages poping up during any installation of new softwares. when crippled,read the infomation carefully and
FIRST OF ALL, TRY TO TUNE YOUR OWN LINUX OS

KEEP IN MIND THAT YOU COULD MAKE IT.
with Redhat 9.0, the version of my XMMS is 1.2.7,which is unable to play mp3, then i accessed into www.xmms.org for the latest version 1.2.10 and related rpms. use the command:
rpm -Uvh *****.rpm
but it didn't work on mp3's. then i tuned the xmms but still failed. but after a restart,it gets fine!
keep this in mind:
TYR THE NEWLY ISNTALLED SOFTWARE AFTER IT'S BEEN INTSTALLED.
IF IT DOESN'T WORK, FIRST TUNE THE SOFTWARE ITSELF, IF FAILED; PLEASE REBOOT OR RESTART YOUR MACHINE AND TRY ONCE MORE.
THIS WILL HELP ON A LOT OF OCCASSIONS.
